The Week in Review

It’s hard to believe that it’s been a week since my last post but a lot of stuff can happen in a week so let’s recap:

Some Snow Melted

(note parking brake on dog)

A week ago I called in sick (sick of winter) 2 days in a row because we got walloped with almost 2 feet of the stuff:

And now, hardly anything left

More Signs of Spring

It’s muddy paw season here:

I hate muddy paw season, because no matter how much you try the dig still manages to track stuff into the house. Spring Cleaning over and over and over again. (sigh)

I Saw a Chevy Bolt

I told BW I was going to come home with one (I kid. I like living indoors)

They are smaller than I thought they would be. They’re nice looking but I don’t really understand why all car manufacturers that make electric cars make them to look more like concept cars than actual …well, cars.

Tesla’s electric car looks pretty normal, but it’s also too rich for our blood. If you want an interior with a lot of plastic then this is the car for you.

I Got Fingerprinted

Mom would be so proud.

Actually, this is a good thing. I’m applying for citizenship and getting fingerprinted is part of the process. I was in and out in 15 minutes.

Now, I wait for an appointment for an interview to open up. In the meantime I’ve got some civics questions to study for my exam.

Another Year Older

Happy Birthday to meeeee……..

My favorite mother in law drove all the way to Buffalo to bake me a birtday pie (blueberry!) and also gifted me with a card for Target that I used to stock up on clothes. It’s kind of hard to beat a 2 dollar t-shirt on sale. I’m a good little shopper.

and BW bought me a cake from Wegmans and had it waiting for me after work with a cup of tea.

(BW doesn’t bake because it’s safer for us that way)

So, all in all a pretty busy week and a pretty good week. After last week’s snow storm any week without 2 feet of snow is a good one.

Also, there was pie (and cake!)

It Snowed This Week

It’s been a few days since my last update I’m not sure where to start, but let’s get the good news first:

I had a few days off from work because this:

image alt text

We got walloped with a nor’ easter and it was unusally because usually we get spared for the most of it because we’re north of lake erie and we miss out on most lake effect snow storms but not this time! .

But we survived.

At Least There Was Pie

Before the Storm:

After the storm:

But the storm did take us by surprise, (I was also surprised that BW bought me a pie) and there was bit of shoveling that had to happen because my car was just a little buried:

image alt text

Meanwhile… BW’s Car?

Oh she gets the garage where her car is nice and snow free and toasty warm. Because, pecking order.

image alt text

Luckily I had some help with all my shoveling:

image alt text

Actually, the dog was a good help during the storm as she herded BW in the back forty on the way back from the compost bin:

And by the end of the day our little helper was pretty much toast:

But at least we were able to turn up the heat.

Oh, wait…

image alt text

This is a photo of a furnace that won’t fire and needed a $300 cash infusion. (at least we found the christmas cup)..

So I asked google for a recommendation for heating and air conditioning company and I found a great guy who was fast, friendly and reasonable for the repair and we now have heat again.

We’ve got BW’s mom here up for a few days and she drove six hours just to bake me a pie!! (ok, and maybe visit her daughter) but also: THERE’S PIE !!!

To summarize boy, are we glad the week is over. We survived 2 feet of snow and a furnace out in the past few days, so now we are really ready for for spring (I’m not sure I’m ready for the spring chores though).

In the meantime, we had to bring a bit of spring indoors:

Until next time…

TH and Co!

Bread Pudding Gone Wild

BW and baking are usually not a good ‘mix’.

Last night, BW decided she need to make bread pudding. I won’t touch the stuff becasue soggy bread isn’t really my thing but she likes it.

Bread goes in oven. She goes up the computer for a bit and then comes down to check on it and I hear:

“Whoa! It’s not supposed to look like this!!!

image alt text

I will let you decide if this is bread pudding to you.

5 Silverados

image alt text

Just five silverados last night at work.

I was hoping to photograph six but I don’t know where the time went. The five I did do were parked in what is probably the worst spot on the lot with no room at all so I tend to take it slow and get out a look to make sure I don’t hit another one.

I doubt I’m going to work later today though due to the big winter storm. The commute would be longer than my actual shift. I will now later in the day.

On Subscribing to Spotify

I have canceled and uncanceled my spotify subscription so many times I can’t count but I keep coming back to spotify even though BW and I share a google play music subscription and it a lot of ways they duplicate each other, but I find that both have different qualities that I like and so I figure I can find the ten bucks a month it costs to pay for my spotify entertainment.

I especially enjoy the weekly curated ‘discover’ playlist that spotify has as well. Also, this playlist has probably every song I grew up with with something like 1000 songs or more, there’s always a song I haven’t heard in years.

Speaking of which U2’s the Joshua Tree was released 30 years ago earlier this week.

30 YEARS! How did that happen?

Enchilada Pie

image alt text

BW made enchilada pie tonight, and it was pretty good. She would say it was delicious but as I’m the fussy eater in the house I’m not sure I would have it again. But, thedog and I got fed so I guess if we like living indoors we should not complain too loudly.

Sold 2008 Apple iMac

I just watched my Apple iMac leave the house, sold to some young man on craigslist:

image alt text

It’s a 2008 model, and I maxed out the RAM and replaced the hard drive with a faster one, but I didn’t really need it and besides: the rule is if something comes in the house then something has to leave and I’m eyeing a new phone so maybe I can get BW to okay that purchase now that I’ve gotten rid of some crap.

I paid about $170 for this with upgrades and sold it for $150.00 so I didn’t pay too much of an Apple tax for this item. It ran surprisingly well for a 9 year old computer but I have others to use so I will survive without this for now.

9 Silverados

I was in and out of **nine **different Chevrolet Silverados today and let me tell you that I wish they had heated seats becasuse it was cold today for sure at about 20 degrees. I thought, or hoped we were through with this winter stuff but apparently not quite yet.

image alt text

Seven Silverados

image alt text

I spent the evening at work in 7 different chevrolet pickup trucks that really only differed in color and if a few cases the options as the Z71 option has a few more toys and I think a bigger motor but I could be wrong.

I’m not quite sure why I’m to photograph the same truck over and over again even if the only thing different is the color, but hey it keeps me employed for the time being and BW likes that so there you go.

Weather was 32 degrees and cloudy.
