The Drinking Contest
another thing I didn't think I would be doing today.
We had just come back from soccer. She loves soccer and this is a first time playing indoors in the winter so she was super excited. I fired up the address of the North Tonawanda Sportsplex in Google Maps as I wanted to be sure I had the address right and she was looking over my shoulder.
This morning she tells BW: "Mommy, you should see the sportsplex! It's huge!"
We made it there on time and besides the struggle of putting soccer socks and cleats on an excited five year old , we were good to go. This might be the first time she actually gets the idea of soccer. This might be her 4th season so it's taken a while.
This isn't to say that she will be the next Messi. I noted that she's still easily distracted and will stop mid-run and look at whatever else is interesting instead. She comes back eventually so all good.
Because we're at a proper arena and the kids are a little older I overheard my first "Soccer Dad" today. This poor kid was getting yelled at by his dad because he missed a shot. The dad kept enforcing the fact that he had to shoot and score and most importantly - win.
These are five year olds. My goal is for her to have fun. (and in a perfect world, have a nap later) I don't care if she wins. Besides, it's the era where everybody gets a prize anyway at this age so winning is not the top priority.
She was most excited because at the end of the lesson they get a stamp on their hand and she was thrilled to get two - one on each hand.
"Wait until Mommy sees", she told me.
"She'll be thrilled", I replied.
So, back to the drinking contest. Who doesn't like a drinking game?
We were just having a lazy Saturday here..a nap (for me, not her) and BW was on her laptop and we had a bit of laundry in the machine. The dog was even quiet.
While we were otherwise occupied she had decided we needed to have a drinking contest:
When I came back upstairs into the kitchen, the above scene was waiting for me.
I had to drink all of the following and then color in either the happy or sad face as I went along. Ready? Here we go..
- Carbonated Water. I liked this - it's plain and healthy and fizzy.
- Orange Juice - Orange Juice is Delicious - an easy happy face.
- Pineapple Juice - This might be better, but not right after OJ - sad face.
- Lemonade - This might have had a better chance if I was able to cleanse my palate but after the OJ and Pineapple this was a taste sensation that I could do without - sad face.
And there you have it folks. Our Saturday.
It's still early so it's not too late to start your own drinking contest.
Beware of the hangovers though. That lemonade is potent stuff.
