  1. Weekend Plans

MOMMY DO NOT READ!! Everybody else: go ahead.

BW is away at a conference, and OMG are we excited!

Not due to the fact that mommy is gone, but more that we have so much to do this weekend

First, we have to get supplies. We made the list together, and of course a shopping list isn’t’ the same without emojis - welcome to the emoji generation. Below is the list of a few groceries we need for the weekend and I will be getting the supplies while she’s in school because afterwards..

It’s trunk or treat at the school from 5:30 to 7pm and not only will you be able to go back to school at night and get candy out of the trunks but Santa will be there!

I think the only thing that would make this night even more awesome is if Taylor Swift showed up 1

She asked me at dinner time if I knew any tricks to make the time to go faster so the weekend could get here faster. I told her to keep busy and it makes the time go by.

After the craziness that is Trunk or Treat, we have stuff planned for the next day too!

After a lot of googling and searching for stuff to do that’s not priced out of this world, we decided on:

    Lunch at McD***lds. 2

Then we are going to the trampoline park for not one, but TWO whole hours of jumping and running and making new friends in a ball pit.

We can hardly sleep we are so excited. I had put her to bed and she had to get up and have me lie with her for a minute so we could talk about all the fun stuff we’re going to do this weekend.

Come on weekend. We are ready! We’re going to have fun, fun, fun. (and broccoli to balance out the trunk or treat candy that will be consumed)

    Keep making plans,

    TH and Co.

    1. But I am sure she’s busy this time of year with the new album and stuff.

    2. I spelled it this way to trick BW as she doesn’t like it when we go there as it’s not healthy. But rules are rules and they have to be broken when she goes away. Besides, I have a coupon.

  2. The Dog is Bored

A story about giving the dog a bone.

More like: Give Me a Break!

I get a text message from BW earlier this afternoon:

“Bring home some dog bones or something to keep the dog entertained - she’s bored”

    Wait. What?

Now I have to make sure the dog is entertained at all times? Nope. Nope. Nope.

Now before we get to ahead here I can understand where she’s coming from: the dog thinks the child’s room is a buffet or a toy box for bored dogs and I have to say the magic markers are disappearing at an astronomical rate so I get what BW wanted to do with a diversion tactic.

    Still. The dog can deal.

The easier fix? Close the door to the child’s bedroom, or even better yet: pick up the stuff off the bedroom floor but nobody listens to dear old Dad when he suggests room cleaning might be a way to prevent magic marker theft from our four legged friend.

The magic markers must smell nice or something, as she goes after those the most. Earlier this evening I caught the dog with a magic marker walking out of the child’s bedroom with the crayon in her mouth.

Busted. Ha! I’ll show her who’s boss.

    The dog, I meant.

We all know BW is the real boss around here.

    Always be entertained,

    TH and Co.

  3. Do You See what I Sea?

    Meet our new Pets!

While in Canada, the child was gifted her very own Sea Monkey Kit.

Photo by Ciprian Boiciuc on Unsplash.

Because when you go to visit Canada you think poutine, maple syrup and the RCMP.

You do not think about Sea Monkeys

I have not thought about Sea Monkeys in some time. I do not lie in bed thinking about Sea Monkeys and I sure as heck didn’t think to buy them, But they’re harmless.

I think. So wait a minute..what exactly are sea monkeys?

According to my Microsoft Co-Pilot, they are:

**Sea-Monkeys are a hybrid breed of brine shrimp sold as novelty pets that hatch from dormant eggs when added to water.**

These tiny creatures have a quirky backstory and a surprisingly rich biological and cultural history. Here’s a deeper dive into what makes Sea-Monkeys so unique:

    -–

    ### 🧬 What Are Sea-Monkeys?

    - **Sea-Monkeys are a type of brine shrimp**, specifically a hybrid known as *Artemia nyos*, engineered to live longer and grow larger than their wild counterparts.

    - They were invented in **1957 by Harold von Braunhut** and marketed as “instant pets” starting in 1962.

    - The name “Sea-Monkeys” was a clever marketing twist—these creatures don’t resemble monkeys at all but were named for their tails and aquatic nature.

    -–

    ### 🧪 How Do They Work?

    - Sea-Monkeys are sold as **dormant eggs in kits**, which typically include:

    - A water purifier

    - The eggs

    - Food

    - Once added to water, the eggs hatch within hours to days, revealing tiny swimming creatures that grow to about **0.25 inches (0.6 cm)**.

    -–

    🌍 Habitat & Lifespan

    - In the wild, brine shrimp thrive in **salty inland waters**, like Utah’s Great Salt Lake or California’s Mono Lake.

    - Sea-Monkeys are designed for **low-maintenance care**, making them ideal for children or casual pet owners.

    - With proper care, they can live for **up to two years**, though many live a few weeks to months.

    🎪 Cultural Impact

    - Sea-Monkeys became iconic in the **1960s and 70s**, heavily advertised in comic books.

    - Their whimsical illustrations often depicted them as humanoid creatures, sparking curiosity and sometimes disappointment when the real animals looked more like tiny shrimp.

    -–

Wait, they are shrimp? And can grow up to 1/4 inch? That’s pretty big for the little container we have them in now. If I wake up and a Sea Monkey has escaped…I will be pissed.

What they don’t tell you above is this is not an instant gift. We are currently on STEP 2 of the instructions. The first instruction was to fill the container with water and then the starter or activator or whatever and wait. FOR 24 HOURS!

Do you know hard it was for her to wait that long?

Step 2 states that once you pour the little eggs in the water they should start to hatch almost instantly so there’s been some peering and praying that we see something but I don’t think there’s much there yet. It takes up to 3 weeks for them to hatch so we have some time to wait, but we are ready with the food little monkeys.

I don’t think I will tell her that they’re just shrimp and let the monkey thing go on a bit longer. Heck, she still believes in Santa Claus.

We currently now have on our living room table a Sea Monkey container that gets watched and watched and watched in hopes of some hatching or moving or something to happen.

    Not much is happening yet.

If she thinks Sea Monkeys are cool just wait until she learns about the Pet Rock

Keep an eye on your Monkeys,

    TH and Co.

  4. 57 Channels and Nothing On

A story about being on the bleeding edge of technology.

We’ve been thinking about getting a new TV. Ours is hardly on, except for watching SpongeBob so we figured why not stimulate this crappy economy by buying what could be the last TV we could ever afford with 100 percent tarriffs coming down the pike.

Photo by Frank Okay on Unsplash

We didn’t know what TV to get. The Samsungs and LG’s and especially the Sony’s were so expensive so I said to BW that we’re going to have to lower our expectations a bit when it comes to getting any new technology.

Thankfully, the child the answer for us right her under our noses:

I present to you our new TV:

It’s an older model and it was “open box” so we got a really good deal on it.

It’s a scratch and dent model too but we don’t care as the screen seems to be in pretty good shape except for the creases and marker marks. It comes with 2 channels: One called “DAD”. and one that is undecipherable so I’m not sure about both channels.

I’m not sure there’s enough content for 24 hours of DAD content - heck, I can barely bang out a few sentences here before I run out of ideas. This new video age is going to be tricky.

But we really did get a good deal on this TV: I mean, it came with a remote and look at the selection:

    We get:

    • Netflix
    • Spongebob
    • Loudhouse (I’m not sure about this one)
    • Disney
    • Paramount

This is all the channels one needs and we’re so happy with our purchase.

But what if there’s a fight about what to watch at the same time?

Not to worry, somebody can always use the new tablet:

Keeping up with the latest technologies,

    TH and Co.

  5. Thankful

    For so many things.

Photo by Jason Hafso on Unsplash

I’m so full of turkey I can’t move but here I am writing about how lucky we are. I know the news is full of hate and bad news and others have it a lot worse than we do. We are aware that others are not as fortunate and we are teaching the child that we help others too and not just ourselves.

I’m thankful for a lot of things but here’s a few things that happened just today that I am thankful for.

    In no particular order:

    1. A healthy child who got enough sleep the night before
    2. An invitation to the home country for a turkey dinner with friends and family. It was great to see little ones that are not so little any more. I’m not sure how that happened. Heck, even my little one keeps growing faster than I would like.
    3. There was a dessert selection. Any day where you get to choose a dessert is a good one.
    4. The drive over the border was uneventful both ways. Yes, there was a wait due to the traffic, but the jokes and silliness in the car about farts and the laughter from the back seat made it all worthwhile.
    5. Now that I’m home, I’m thankful that the child did not fall asleep in the car and when we got home just brushed her teeth and went to bed.
    6. My readers. Yes, you. I’m no influencer or and just a Dad writing about navigating the waters of parenting when he would rather be napping. I have readers and that’s so cool. Thank you.
    7. I’m home and don’t have to listen to Taylor Swift in the car anymore. It was a long drive

    Counting blessings and not calories,

    TH and Co.
