  1. One Percent Awake

What a day. It was just a day and not a very exciting day for all of us but it was a little different as the child went away without us for 3 whole hours tonight.

I will give you a minute to read that last bit and let it sink in: NO Child under foot for 3 hours!

BW and I had the night to ourselves. I listened to music and she started to wrap Christmas presents while the child was out of the house. Also, I loaded the dishwasher and ran it.

We were just footloose and fancy free for 3 whole hours. (Well…not really)

We sent the child to night school (art) and she loved it.

    Can I go tomorrow?

Um. No. It’s a monthly thing

You see, we sent her to art class for kids. At night, so parents can have some time to themselves! This person that runs the class is genius! She charged us about $20 an hour which when now that I think about it it’s about the same price as a baby sitter, but in reverse: We stay home and kids go away.

I went to pick her up, and I took her home and she was excited to show mommy her new artwork and to tell mommy that she was wrong: she did not have to send her with a snack as they provided one. It was some popcorn and TWO Oreo Cookies!

    Get it right, Mommy!

Draw a bird, she was told.

She tried to milk the fun a little longer and wanted to stay up and eat Halloween candy but don’t push it kid. It’s bedtime like 3 hours ago. It’s my bedtime for crying out loud.

PJ’s and a toothbrush and tucked her in and she was done.

“I’m One Percent Awake”, she told me.

I bet you are. It was a busy day for you. Goodnight.

    Stay Awake,

  2. Disney On Ice!

BW had bought tickets some time back and I had completely forgotten about this big event until earlier this week. We kept it as a surprise until this morning, and even then we just stated that we were going to a costume party. It wasn’t a lie as there was going to be people in costumes and it would be a party.

We had tried to get her to behave all week by dangling this big surprise in front of her all week but it didn’t really work so hot so that backfired.

When it was time to go finally, she didn’t want to as she was watching her tablet.

“Oh No”, we told her. “You will want to go to this. Trust us”

Once we got there and she realized what the big surprise was she was of course excited and spent the entire time on the edge of her seat.

    Mickey and Friends.

    About 10,000 Frozen Fans.

    Olaf is my favorite

Surprisingly, she didn’t ask for any of the crap they were selling on the way out so that’s a plus. If she keeps behaving well like today – as I say: good things might just happen again.

    Keep skating,

  3. The CD Collection

I have collected over the years approximately 1000 CD’s. But I think the last CD I bought was probably close to 15 plus years ago, and since then they have been taking up space in the basement untouched.

It was time to go. I am never going to use them again because: streaming services. I’m a bit of an audiophile but sometimes comfort and convenience wins over total audio bliss these days. I have taken the tests on streaming quality and I can’t tell the difference in quality most days anyway, so goodbye CD collection.

Some say records are the way to go and I do believe in this to a point but again – who the heck has the time for that? I am currently listening to music through the crappy speakers in my laptop and it’s not great, but it’s fine. I can keep an ear out for the child.

And now that I can talk to a smart speaker and it will play what I want? Ya. Goodbye Cd’s.

By Atreyu – Own work, CC BY 3.0, https://comm ons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=4048774 I really wanted one of these back in the day

About a month or so I decided it’s time to get rid of these things. I can live without hearing Sussudio in high fidelity – or at all. That’s another thing, Some of the music I like sounds like crap regardless due to the time or technology or equipment it was recorded on.

Thankfully this is less of a job than selling all my Dad’s Cars where I had to figure out what the heck it was, and then take photos and box them all up. Selling CD’s is easier because they have a bar code and I can scan that and with a few clicks of buttons on my phone, I am done. I start the auctions at $1 and save for a few exceptions of maybe five bucks a disc most have been going for a buck, if at all.

    Making Money Selling CD’s

Google has lost of storage space. I don’t

This really hasn’t happened. I have made maybe $100 for the 500 I have listed so far. This will not make me rich it seems

If I sell a CD for a buck, you would think that you would get the buck but eBay is sneaky with the fees. They charge on the total order, so 15% of about six bucks equals about 13 cents a disc profit after the fees. Then there’s the cost of the envelope and the label printer I bought and the labels. I am sure I am operating at a loss with this little venture.

About half sell I have found. Nobody needs another copy of Thriller so that one’s going to the Goodwill. I could have realized a bit more but I graded these as goodas far as condition goes and for the most part, they have been better than that and I have had no complaints from the buyers on quality. It’s better to under promis and over deliver in this case I have found.

I had thought about saving them for the child in case she might be interested but by that time iPhone 29 will be out, so the thought of having to skip songs to get to the one you want will not be that attractive by then I would think. I can only imagine what the technology will be like then.

I really won’t miss the record stores and the searching and then being able to only afford one CD purchase – if that – and then getting it home to find out you wasted 20 bucks and back then 20 bucks could buy a lot of jos louis instead.

Now I just pay less than that 20 bucks a month for music for all of us, and I get storage for my current collection as well as a selection of others including new releases and I even get an ad free YouTube experience which is a much, much better experience.

It’s been 42 years since the first CD player came to market and that silly Phil Collins song was released 3 years later. It’s time to let go.

All this to say that with few exceptions, you’re better off just dropping your CD collection off at Goodwill. You won’t be missing much but I bet somebody else will be thrilled with your Thriller CD.

I am going to miss the lasers though.

  4. Fifty

I have written 50 posts here now including this one. Want to know how many I actually remember? Oh… one. The rest is for the most part a very poorly written diary while I try to keep my eyes open at the end of very long days . (with some time off for good behaviour)

I have the domain name and a laptop – and most importantly: an audience. Well…all 23 of you.

I guess you could call me a writer. You would be the reader.

Hard to believe it’s 50 posts already. She’ll be off to college before we know it.

I guess that’s why I am doing this – to remember the good stuff. Nobody wants to remember the bad stuff. We only do fun here.

  5. F is for Fracture

    OMG you guys,

Every day I wake up wondering what I will write about and by the day’s end I have almost too much to write about.

Take today for example: I Ubered, came home for a bit and then went out to Uber again some. I was on my last trip of the day when BW called:

Do you have a passenger in the car? She asked.

    No. I replied

Get home! I think she dislodged her shoulder! I will meet you at the hospital !

I didn’t know I could drive that fast. Of course I was way way on the other end of town so it took me a bit but I got there just after they did.

You all know the joys of Emergency room visits so I will save you the minutiae of all and tell you the wait wasn’t too bad and we were out of there in under 4 hours

The first doctor comes in and asks questions and then he leaves. Then another doctor comes in and asks the child pretty much the same questions and if her arm hurts?

With a confused look she replied:

    “Well…Yea? “

Of course it hurts! She fell off the slide. What kind of question is that!

Oh, right. This is how we got here. I got a bit ahead of myself. The child was at the park with her friend when she fell off the slide. No adult witnessed this because the park is literally in the backyard of her friend’s house and across the street from our house. It’s not in line of sight but I still get wifi from the house when I’m at the park so it’s real close.

BW didn’t hear anything, but out neighbor did and rescued my injured little bird and brought her home to mommy.

Then, I get that phone call from BW and the fun started.

They did x-rays – she got stickers
They gave her medicine – she got a popsicle.

She’s living her best life ever at the hospital.

The diagnosis? A buckle fracture (it’s okay, I had to look it up too)

    ouch. just ouch.

They sent her home in a sling and told us to make an appointment with a bone doc in about 10 days to get her looked at and make sure she’s healing.

As I put her to bed tonight she told me:

“You know, they should make the walls of the slide taller so you don’t fall off. “

Or…says Dad: You could be more careful and not try to climb up the slide. Slides are meant to be slid down and not climbed up.

    Until next time,

    Be safe!
