  1. The Easter Bunny Says I Have To Go To Bed

This will be a very short one tonight folks because I was told I was to go to bed immediately or the Easter Bunny won’t come. I told the child this does not apply to Dads, and it’s only for little girls - but she’s not buying it, so I’m off to pretend to go to bed and then get up and sprinkle eggs around the house once she’s gone to sleep.

Considering she’s been out of bed about a million times tonight I told her I would go to bed as soon as I wrote this post - so here we are.

Easter 2026: We are ready for you Bunny.

Bring it. But not before 6am. That’s the rule here.

    Happy Easter,

  2. You Have New Notifications

I was working on a slide show for a little side project and in some ways it looks like a text message conversation and she locked onto this and wanted to have our own conversation. With Pen and Paper.

“Lets’s do the text message thing”, she asked.

“No, go to bed”, I tell her.

She pulls her old “five more minutes” trick on her old dad and who am I to refuse a freshly bathed and squeaky clean child in a blue unicorn nightie? Not I.

So, we played “text message game” - just for five minutes.

    Here’s the transcript:

Esperanza: Hey Dad! Can I have an Xbox?

    Dad: WHAT!?!!!

Esperanza: Ok. Ok. What did you think?

Dad: Let me think about it. I thought about it. Ask your mom.

Dad: Dad loves you ♡. Also you have stinky toes. Just kidding. Good night.

Espy: EWWW! Hey! Phew. 5 min.

    Until Next Time,

  3. Excited for Easter

I don’t remember being excited for the Easter bunny. But back in the day, I think we got to go to Sunday school only to come home and find your Dad at the ears off your chocolate bunny. 1

Tonight as we were cleaning up a bit after dinner, BW asked why she wasn’t eating her veggie snacks we sent her with. I had to remind BW that they’ve been having easter since…oh, a week ago. She has had more sweets offered this week than she did at Christmas.

Easter, somehow has turned into a party. I thought it was about daffodils and fancy hats, but I guess that’s for old Dads to remember. The new generation knows all the latest dance moves and that Easter is now a week long event with a LOT of sugar.

Speaking of which, she is now off school on Spring break for ONE WEEK people. Tomorrow we plan to do nothing and then we have her in camp MTW at least so BW can get some work done without having to answer to “Hey Mom!” 3,246 times

To summarize, as we go into the Easter weekend we’re looking down a tunnel that includes more family time than we care to have. Also, chocolate. I hear the ears are delicious.

Get excited, folks. The Easter Bunny is coming.

Just keep an eye on your old man and your chocolate close. Trust me on this one.

    Until Next Time,

    TH and Co.

  4. It's April and I'm the Fool

I should have seen this coming.

You see, she’s been obsessed with pranks for what - a year or so now?

But I guess I missed this clue, or she’s been obsessed with pranks for so long that it’s just seemed almost natural to get pranked every day now.

But this year, we were at peak April Fools excitement, folks. She didn’t want to go to bed last night and couldn’t seem to sleep. The two of us had planned to put some green or even red food coloring into her coffee in the morning.

But it was BW that won April Fools this year.

This morning, the child crawled into bed with us for a few minutes before the day started and then BW told us that there was no school today.

Both the child and I were confused and before we could both figure out what she was talking about BW burst out “April Fools!”. The child and I were the fools this year.

We went downstairs and she decided she wanted to make mom’s coffee a dark brown instead of red. I tried to tell her that this was not really a good idea because coffee is already brown buts he would have nothing of it and BW got pranked with coffee with brown food coloring.

Thankfully there’s only three of us because that’s all the pranking we can do.

At school there was a plan for a party and I had to go pickup a veggie tray to bring over to the school - which I did without a surprise or trick to be had. But when the child got home she told us that the principal announced over the loudspeakers that the party was cancelled and then….APRIL FOOLS!

She came home with some gummy bears and Play-Doh and told us she had a great time. On the first day of the month that’s a pretty good way to start April even if for a minute there she thought she didn’t have to go.

Mommy won April Fool’s Day for 2026.

    There’s always next year,

  5. The Reading Table

A short story about a short story.

It was that in-between hour. Actually, not even an hour - about 15 minutes - where it’s too early for bed but too late to start anything…

Dinner had been had, outdoor play in the nice weather happened and the both the dishwasher and the robot vacuum were humming away in the background doing their nightly chores.

I was at the kitchen table ~~doomscrolling~~ reading on my phone, and then a few minutes later BW joined me with her phone. I don’t know where the child was, but she came down and saw the both of us reading there and decided she wanted to read at the table too!

She grabbed her Highlights Magazine - which coincidentally I had tried to toss out earlier this morning but the child caught me and scolded me for trying to throw out her stuff 1

She grabbed an apple, started to hum and eat at the same time and in-between all the eating and humming she read us the entire short story. It was short - maybe 2 paragraphs long but it was perfect in so many ways:

The apple was just the right snack for this activity, the story was just the right length and the activity could not be better. No tablet, no Nintendo - just hanging out with Mom and Dad on a Monday night at the kitchen table reading stories to each other.

Like the MasterCard ad says: Priceless.

    TH and Co.
