  1. The Fun We Had

I’m watching. Dad is always watching.

A deal is a deal - she behaved and earned it by behaving 10 days in a row and with some negotiation on our end we said she can go to Fun City and also - bring a friend for even more fun.

And boy did we have fun. She brought her friend edith 1 along and they had a great time chatting it up in the car on both the way there and the way back. Edith had so much fun that she didn’t want to go back home and wanted to go to our house.

It might have something to do with the fact that she asked for a “snack” and chose sour patch kids and BW asked if she was going to eat them all and Edith said to her “well..YEAH”

Bravery is a thing the child still needs to work on. Edith has no problems in that regard and was zip-lining and rock climing as if she compteted in the five and under age group and took home all the medals.

Ours? She skews closer to the “also ran” category when it comes to having the fear.

Just look at the face on the photo below - does that look like full on fear to you? It does to me.

But all was not lost and we had a bravery award or two for her as she overcame her fear to jump in the foam pit from the top row and once she got that crossed off the fear list she was ready to go all day jumping into the ball pit over and over.

When the time came to go there was a bit of struggle because she didn’t want to lave the foam pit.

The adults also had fun. BW and I found some massager chairs to sit in and watch our child and her friend run themselves ragged - and they did. I have no idea how anybody was still standing at the end of it, but somehow they made it home without falling asleep in the car.

We all had a good time - even the adults, which is not what you would think would be fun for us at our age: running around a indoor play park to the sound of your kid and about 100 plus other kids all saying the same thing:

    Mom! Watch ME!

    Keeping it in the air,

  2. The Sweet Tooth

A story about finding a monster of a mess under her bed.

The other day I was cleaning up her room because try as we may - she won’t do it.

Actually, she will do it. She just won’t do it well because her idea of cleaning up is just jamming all the clothing into a laundry hamper - dirty or not - or my favorite: hiding it all under the bed.

What she does not realize is that Dad has a Magic weapon: It’s called: Moving the Bed to see what’s under there.

And under the bed dear old Dad finds lots of things: old crayons and dog hair and all the single socks and little notes and then you will not believe what dad found next:

    CANDY WRAPPERS

Or, I should specify: candy wrappers from unauthorized candy consumption. It was a mystery…hmmmm… who could have it been?

Mommy? - No she likes chocolate
Dad? - He too likes chocolate. And Mommy.
The Dog? - chocolate is bad for her, so no, and I only tolerate the dog and I’m definitely not feeding it chocolate.

This leaves my excellent deducing skills to determine that the culprit is the child.

Yup, she’s been getting into the pantry and sneaking her halloween stash upstairs bit by bit - and until I cleaned up she was getting away with it. It’s easy to hide the evidence when it all blends in with all the other mess up there.

As I am apt to say: It’s only illegal if you get caught - Well, she got caught.

She fessed up right away and really that’s all we want. The punishment or even the old stink eye from Dad goes away if you tell the truth around here. If you don’t - it’s a no fun day and nobody wants those.

Fast forward to tonight where we have more delicious choices for dessert - she could have had ice cream, chocolate pudding or even cookies - but she chose these things:

DOTS Individually Wrapped Candy - Original Gummy Candy 55 ct Mini Candy Boxes - Flavors Cherry, Lime, Orange, Lemon & Strawberry - Gluten Free, Kosher & Peanut Free Gumdrops

OF all the choices. I don’t get it. There were much better choices for her from her haul on Halloween and she’s still at the good stuff stage too - with full-sized chocolate bars and fun dip and lollipops - but this was the choice so whatever.

She will always pick sour or candy over chocolate and I can’t figure out where we went wrong raising her?

Oh, I know: We let her sneak candy into her bedroom. Crap.

I wonder if it’s because she hasn’t had really good chocolate? You know - the good stuff - the “company is coming over” chocolate. Maybe it’s not too late to get her to come to the dark (chocolate) side after all.

We just need to find some truffles and they shouldn’t be too hard to find. Heck, I could have them here tomorrow if I wanted. I could tell BW that we need these for a science project that’s also a learning experience for the child.

    BW likes science and chocolate.

I bet this would be one of the very few ideas I have that BW would get behind, because: chocolate.

And science. Don’t forget the science.

  3. Would You Rather?

Read this newsletter or one with an audience?

We are all, all, allllllll about the would you rather game here.

It’s like a switch flipped this week and somebody, somewhere taught her this game and now I get questioned about 1000 times a day about my preferences.

I mean, I get it. It’s a great way to meet a new person and see if your worldview resonates with each other.

If you were an adult, I might ask you questions like:

    John or Paul?

    CD or Vinyl?

    Seinfeld or Friends?

And maybe over time we could get to know each other and it’s a fun way start a conversation.

    But, But, BUT

I live with the child. I know everything about her because BW and I made her.

I know all the things because I am the father and also, I’ve been keeping an eye on her for the last six years or so.

It’s like a switch flipped and she asks me questions all day and all night.

Off the top of my head:

“Would I rather be a Bunny or a Bear?”

“Would you rather play baseball or basketball?”

“Would you rather eat ice cream or cake?”

and on and on and on.

So in this spirit of non-stop questions today:

Would you rather read this newsletter or pet a wet dog? If I had to guess, the dog would win.

    The Dog always Wins.

    Keep asking questions,

    TH and Co.
