  1. F is for Fracture

    OMG you guys,

Every day I wake up wondering what I will write about and by the day’s end I have almost too much to write about.

Take today for example: I Ubered, came home for a bit and then went out to Uber again some. I was on my last trip of the day when BW called:

Do you have a passenger in the car? She asked.

    No. I replied

Get home! I think she dislodged her shoulder! I will meet you at the hospital!

I didn’t know I could drive that fast. Of course I was way way on the other end of town so it took me a bit but I got there just after they did.

You all know the joys of Emergency room visits so I will save you the minutiae of all and tell you the wait wasn’t too bad and we were out of there in under 4 hours

The first doctor comes in and asks questions and then he leaves. Then another doctor comes in and asks the child pretty much the same questions and if her arm hurts?

With a confused look she replied:

    “Well…Yea? “

Of course it hurts! She fell off the slide. What kind of question is that!

Oh, right. This is how we got here. I got a bit ahead of myself. The child was at the park with her friend when she fell off the slide. No adult witnessed this because the park is literally in the backyard of her friend’s house and across the street from our house. It’s not in line of sight but I still get wifi from the house when I’m at the park so it’s real close.

BW didn’t hear anything, but out neighbor did and rescued my injured little bird and brought her home to mommy.

Then, I get that phone call from BW and the fun started.

They did x-rays – she got stickers
They gave her medicine – she got a popsicle.

She’s living her best life ever at the hospital.

The diagnosis? A buckle fracture (it’s okay, I had to look it up too)

    ouch. just ouch.

They sent her home in a sling and told us to make an appointment with a bone doc in about 10 days to get her looked at and make sure she’s healing.

As I put her to bed tonight she told me:

“You know, they should make the walls of the slide taller so you don’t fall off. “

Or…says Dad: You could be more careful and not try to climb up the slide. Slides are meant to be slid down and not climbed up.

    Until next time,

    Be safe!

  2. Band Aids and Boo Boo’s

We were having a nice evening when it all went sideways

BW and I were at the kitchen table talking and the child was playing outside when the screaming began. I knew she fell. I could hear it through the open window. She was dribbling the basketball (something she’s surprisingly good at) when the fun stopped and the pain started.

Waaaaah Waaaah I want a huggie! she screamed.

    First, let’s inspect the damage

    1. skinned knee
    2. skinned left palm
    3. skinned right palm

I didn’t observe it but it’s my guess she was running on our uneven sidewalk when she fell and did the “Superman” through the air and then fell using her hands to break the fall.

The screaming didn’t last long and with some TLC and a few hugs were were back in business.

That said, we’ve already had to have a complete new set of bandages because the other ones fell off because she picks at them and can’t leave them alone. So one more round of unneeded bandaid changes and she was off to bed and here I am writing this small little post tonight.

She’s allergic to regular bandaids like you see and so she needs latex-free bandaids due to a latex allergy. It’s not like she will rub against a balloon and explode, but she just can’t wear regular bandages.

She also will not go to bed tonight even though she’s exhausted. She’s been farting around up there and coming out with every excuse possible on why she needs water, or a hug, or God knows what else. She just needs to go to bed. Heck, BW is already in bed and I would be if I didn’t have to stop writing to go fight a fire or some stuffed animal emergency.

Also, I just pulled a crayon out of the dog’s mouth. I’m pretty sure she’s not supposed to eat those.

We will find out I guess.

    September 2024 Income Report

You guys! I made ten bucks this month with my Amazon earnings. I’m rich!

I’m still operating a loss here

It costs me $11 a month to host this so I have almost broken even. I’m hoping for a better October but I guess we shall see.

  3. The CD Collection

I have collected over the years approximately 1000 CD’s. But I think the last CD I bought was probably close to 15 plus years ago, and since then they have been taking up space in the basement untouched.

It was time to go. I am never going to use them again because: streaming services. I’m a bit of an audiophile but sometimes comfort and convenience wins over total audio bliss these days. I have taken the tests on streaming quality and I can’t tell the difference in quality most days anyway, so goodbye CD collection.

Some say records are the way to go and I do believe in this to a point but again – who the heck has the time for that? I am currently listening to music through the crappy speakers in my laptop and it’s not great, but it’s fine. I can keep an ear out for the child.

And now that I can talk to a smart speaker and it will play what I want? Ya. Goodbye Cd’s.

By Atreyu – Own work, CC BY 3.0, https://comm ons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?curid=4048774 I really wanted one of these back in the day

About a month or so I decided it’s time to get rid of these things. I can live without hearing Sussudio in high fidelity – or at all. That’s another thing, Some of the music I like sounds like crap regardless due to the time or technology or equipment it was recorded on.

Thankfully this is less of a job than selling all my Dad’s Cars where I had to figure out what the heck it was, and then take photos and box them all up. Selling CD’s is easier because they have a bar code and I can scan that and with a few clicks of buttons on my phone, I am done. I start the auctions at $1 and save for a few exceptions of maybe five bucks a disc most have been going for a buck, if at all.

    Making Money Selling CD’s

Google has lost of storage space. I don’t

This really hasn’t happened. I have made maybe $100 for the 500 I have listed so far. This will not make me rich it seems

If I sell a CD for a buck, you would think that you would get the buck but eBay is sneaky with the fees. They charge on the total order, so 15% of about six bucks equals about 13 cents a disc profit after the fees. Then there’s the cost of the envelope and the label printer I bought and the labels. I am sure I am operating at a loss with this little venture.

About half sell I have found. Nobody needs another copy of Thriller so that one’s going to the Goodwill. I could have realized a bit more but I graded these as good as far as condition goes and for the most part, they have been better than that and I have had no complaints from the buyers on quality. It’s better to under promis and over deliver in this case I have found.

I had thought about saving them for the child in case she might be interested but by that time iPhone 29 will be out, so the thought of having to skip songs to get to the one you want will not be that attractive by then I would think. I can only imagine what the technology will be like then.

I really won’t miss the record stores and the searching and then being able to only afford one CD purchase – if that – and then getting it home to find out you wasted 20 bucks and back then 20 bucks could buy a lot of jos louis instead.

Now I just pay less than that 20 bucks a month for music for all of us, and I get storage for my current collection as well as a selection of others including new releases and I even get an ad free YouTube experience which is a much, much better experience.

It’s been 42 years since the first CD player came to market and that silly Phil Collins song was released 3 years later. It’s time to let go.

All this to say that with few exceptions, you’re better off just dropping your CD collection off at Goodwill. You won’t be missing much but I bet somebody else will be thrilled with your Thriller CD.

I am going to miss the lasers though.

  4. Plumbing. Continued

I thought we were over this.

I mean we spent a lot of money and effort trying to get my basement man cave dry and up and running again, and now this.

I found a new leak. To be fair it’s an old leak that we were ignoring for the longest time but it has gotten worse over time so it’s time to do something. The problem is that when somebody showers some of the water ends up in the laundry room below. I’m no plumber but I am sure this isn’t supposed to work this way.

In the past, we just let it drip as it was going into the basement and it was literally a few drips. The child does more damage with spills and unauthorized water play on a normal day anyway so this was no big deal. But when we had visitors here I found that the leak was worse.

We call a plumber. The good news is it turned out not to be plumbing related. The bad news is it still happens and we’re not 100 percent sure why. Water is sneaky, I tell you.

We think that water is getting in behind the faucet handle so the plumber added some caulk but after the caulk dried it still leaked so now I’m at wit’s end with this problem.

    needs more caulk.

If you ask me I think the kid was a little skimpy on the caulk and I’m going to add more. This seems awful light and our bathroom is dated and needs a makeover anyway so if my caulk job isn’t the best – whatever. As long as I can fix it cosmetics are pretty much secondary at this point.

The final fix might be a bucket. The leak is in the laundry room so I just have a plastic garbage can there anyway I will go back to my old method of water remediation as it was working for years.

When she got home from school today she wanted to go on adventure find with a small shovel and a bucket so we roamed the neighborhood for a bit and then went to the park. We found a few leaves, dandelions and rocks.

Then we went to the park.

the search for the good stuff.

    this is real good stuff.

It seemed like yesterday she was too small for the big slide at the park.

Lastly, the good news to end the week is that our dishwasher has fixed itself over time. I wish it had decided to do this before I had to spend hours on the phone trying to get somebody to fix it and now I have to figure out how to cancel the service call.

We have a toilets that flush now, and a dishwasher that works again. If we get that leak figured out we can be back in business.

    Until next time,

  5. Fifty

I have written 50 posts here now including this one. Want to know how many I actually remember? Oh… one. The rest is for the most part a very poorly written diary while I try to keep my eyes open at the end of very long days. (with some time off for good behaviour)

I have the domain name and a laptop – and most importantly: an audience. Well…all 23 of you.

I guess you could call me a writer. You would be the reader.

Hard to believe it’s 50 posts already. She’ll be off to college before we know it.

PS> Today we went to our park because it looks like today will be the last day of summery weather so we decided to make the most of it.
