  1. She’s Crafty

I think it must be the weather or something but you guys – there’s a whole lot of cutting and pasting and gluing and knitting going on here. Except for me. I sit, not knit.

So I thought I would share what just one day of artwork looks like here:

    -

    • Hey Dad! Let’s Play Play-Doh!

this is supposed to be a christmas tree

this is a person with long hair driving a car

I made this one. It’s supposed to be an Adidas running shoe

one armed snowman. the other arm fell off.

    scary monster with ears.

and that’s the play-doh which worked out pretty well. It was too early to go to bed but too early to start anything too complicated.

Speaking of complicated… - ## Hey Dad! Let’s do Homework!

    um..okay. how?

you know, you tell me do stuff.

    Go clean your room

Dad! not that kind of stuff! You know, like writing and reading.

    oh, I see..

    Exhibit A

    I had her spell WALRUS

I thought that she did okay for WALRUS. I would have a hard time at that one at that age.

Then lastly, I was made breakfast this morning. The spoon was a little too chewy.

    Sunny Side UP

Then BW is full on craft mode with her needlepoint so I’ve been spending my time picking up craft shrapnel that they both leave lying around.

No school tomorrow either due to remembrance day (Veteran’s Day for my US Audience) so I bet there will be more homework and crafting and the like tomorrow.

    Lest we forget,

  2. Smashing Pumpkins Again

Today was pretty nice out and after our late night last night, we were laying low during the day and going to bed early.

At least that was the plan.

What happened is she wanted to play school for a bit, so we did that but most of the day she was glued to the tablet hungover. At one point this afternoon we decided that going outside might be a good thing and decided it was time to do one last fall cleanup before winter.

We grabbed the pumpkins and a hammer and went off to the woods for our annual tradition: smashing pumpkins!

    2023

    2024

As I added these 2 photos I realized that holy, she’s grown a bit. She looks so tiny in last year’s photo!

I hope we are still going to be able to do this next year as there’s new development popping up in our “woods” so we may have to find a new venue to do this if the construction keeps up:

Say Hello to New Home Beige

Lastly, I was given this a few days back:

    I love you too, pumpkin.

    Keep getting smashed,

  3. One Percent Awake

What a day. It was just a day and not a very exciting day for all of us but it was a little different as the child went away without us for 3 whole hours tonight.

I will give you a minute to read that last bit and let it sink in: NO Child under foot for 3 hours!

BW and I had the night to ourselves. I listened to music and she started to wrap Christmas presents while the child was out of the house. Also, I loaded the dishwasher and ran it.

We were just footloose and fancy free for 3 whole hours. (Well…not really)

We sent the child to night school (art) and she loved it.

    Can I go tomorrow?

Um. No. It’s a monthly thing

You see, we sent her to art class for kids. At night, so parents can have some time to themselves! This person that runs the class is genius! She charged us about $20 an hour which when now that I think about it it’s about the same price as a baby sitter, but in reverse: We stay home and kids go away.

I went to pick her up, and I took her home and she was excited to show mommy her new artwork and to tell mommy that she was wrong: she did not have to send her with a snack as they provided one. It was some popcorn and TWO Oreo Cookies!

    Get it right, Mommy!

Draw a bird, she was told.

She tried to milk the fun a little longer and wanted to stay up and eat Halloween candy but don’t push it kid. It’s bedtime like 3 hours ago. It’s my bedtime for crying out loud.

PJ’s and a toothbrush and tucked her in and she was done.

“I’m One Percent Awake”, she told me.

I bet you are. It was a busy day for you. Goodnight.

    Stay Awake,

    TH and Co.

  4. When Quiet is Never a Good Thing

After dinner, she was told to go and put her pajamas on so we can start the bedtime routine. She’s been getting up at like 6am lately so when it’s 6pm it means it’s bedtime! Yay for Dad!

Tonight she went upstairs and what we thought she was doing was putting on pajamas as she was told, so we can do the bedtime routine with a book and some general goofing around.

Then I realized that wow it’s really quiet up there. Potential parents: pro tip – this is never never a good thing. If your child is awfully quiet, then they are up to no good. Take tonight for example:

I went to go upstairs to see what’s going on and then about halfway up I get walloped with a very strong, very very strong smell of perfume. It was hideous the smell. I thought I was going to pass out.

I found her stripped down to her undies giving all her teddy bears a bath with perfume. Those poor bears were doused in the stuff!

You see, earlier this summer she was given a gift of perfume for kids (who thinks this is good idea?) and we have already had a few incidents where I have walked upstairs with a wall of perfume hit me right between the eyes.

I can be partially to blame for this. The other night I told her that at my fancy “sleep hotel” they had a little spray you were supposed to spray on the pillow at night to help you go to sleep. So last night, we were more frugal with our squirts and gave 2 quick sprays on her pillow of her perfume. Still stinky, but whatever. It was manageable.

Not tonight. We might be aired out by spring.

I had to repo the perfume away from my little teddy bear bather and explain to her that we don’t spray teddy bears until they are water-logged with perfume (perfume-logged?). She seemed okay with this and despite the odor wafting in her room we managed to get her dressed and in the bed and here I am banging out another award-winning post.

Every day I drive around and wonder what I am going to write about and then I come home and find inspiration in the form of my family..

Also, she learned all the words to Last Christmas while on the school bus today:

    ‘Tis the Season,

  5. We are Moving to Canada

I went to bed before the election results were in and then woke up to this:

    uh-oh.

The Cheeto is going to be in charge again.

When I asked BW about this, she replied that she is going to send the child and I back to Canada.

Yeah, as if it’s better in Canada.

And that’s as far down the political rabbit hole I am willing to go. Just know we’re staying put – regardless of what BW says. Good lord, could you imagine the packing? Yikes!

While the populus was voting for the Cheeto, the kiddo and I took advantage of the ridiculously warm weather to go for a walk. Not just any walk, mind you but it was more like a mission. She made a list of what we needed:

    1. The bright green Camaro around the corner. That’s about as long as her legs will take her.
    2. One Pine Cone
    3. One Leaf
    4. One Dandelion

I knew we could find a Camaro and a leaf, which wasn’t hard. But the dandelion? I didn’t think there would be any of those in early November, but what do you know, she found one.

She was thrilled that we found all the things on the list. The bonus is that we found the world’s biggest leaf on our walk.

    Sandals! In November

This all happened while the nation bit its nails in anticipation/dread on the outcome on election day.

The kids? They were out collecting leaves and riding bikes and enjoying the sunshine.

I think I want to be a kid for bit. No move to Canada required.

    Keep your chin up,

    TH and Co.

PS. We didn’t find the Green Camaro. It’s November after all so it’s in storage is our guess. At least that’s what we decided so we’re going with it.
