  1. Today is Brought to you by the Number 3

I can’t believe I have found time to write today as it has been crazy busy.

    Item Number 1

    this is fine.

We had the remediation guys come today and clean and pull up all the wet flooring downstairs and then plug in big industrial dryers. I was fearing the worst with these things as when we had our roof fall in about 2017 or so we had 3 of these running in the kitchen for days and they were so loud that BW couldn’t stand it and went out of town for the week.

Maybe the technology has changed but these are not half as loud as our previous experience. As I write this, I think that our fridge is louder. That said, I did put the child to bed with hearing protectors on. She said she was scared but I think it was just a stall tactic. As I write this she is asleep with the earmuffs on and the song wheels on the bus at full volume to she can hear it. Hey, whatever it takes

    Item Number 2

This is the only piece of equipment that’s not in my basement at the moment | Photo by Luke Besley on Unsplash

Of course all this has to happen today because hey why not – the contractor came today unannounced for an estimate as well – wanting to know about flooring preferences and whether there was trim there or not originally – all while the blowy things were blowing away at full blast and I had other pressing issues which was:

Photo by Sincerely Media on Unsplash | Asthma Sucks.

    Item Number 3

As number 1 and 2 above were happening I was also trying to get BW admitted in the hospital and of course the doctor’s office was no help when I called for advice.

You see her asthma has been acting up over the past few weeks and it’s gone from worse to “let’s get you to the hospital” worse so I helped her get packed up and then sent her in an uber of all things – because I had 3 other people in my house who were unrelated to me and the one that was related to me was coming home in a school bus in about an hour’s time

Also, I had to make dinner:

the rice didn’t turn out so hot so I had improvise a bit with the starch. We all survived.

As I write this I have one family member asleep upstairs and the other is in good hands in the hospital where they have doctors and meds that will get her on the mend soon

For today – this is the best if gets I guess. I think I held it together for the most part

Today I wrote about Dehumidifiers, Refrigerators, earmuffs and vinyl plank flooring

ps. how do people with real jobs have time for all this?

  2. Still Wet

    The Sewer

As I write this, it’s 12:45 pm and I still have no solution to my plumbing problems. The guys showed up and told BW that it was all good and nothing was wrong. I told her that hang on, I will be home in 10 minutes and not to let them leave.

At first, they said that they did the work and argued with me that there was nothing wrong, but they needed a camera to see down the pipe, and of course the pipe they had was broken.

Once the camera was here then the real work was happening because: big surprise they found something and the backhoe came off the truck and they started digging near the street.

They have been in that hole for 4+ hours so far. There have been 2 other trucks come and go over time and the drivers stopped to look down the hole, talk a bit and then leave.

They have to be close to being finished. They tried to show me videos about how it’s not their fault, because of tree roots but we just want to be able to shower without the basement flooding at this point.

9:00 pm update: NO more leaking and we are showered! We may be finally done this fiasco. I am not sure I would recommend this provider again though. I waiting to calm down before I leave a google review

    The Child

She was up too late last night. We lost Don. Don is (or was) a binkie elephant that we named Donald Trunk not because we’re fans but because he’s an elephant. This Don is actually more useful than the Don currently running to be President. At least our Don isn’t a felon

We have lost Don before and the Dog has eaten at least 2 others so I think that this is actually Don IV. Anyway. because my eyesight kind of sucks I got a flashlight so we could search her bedroom. She claimed she had no idea where he was and that I needed to look. It was getting late and she needed to be in bed. We needed to find Don.

She’s been doing this thing where every stuffed animal has been going to bed and has to have a blanket on it:

all tucked in. these are everywhere

I looked and didn’t see Don under any blankets or clothes. Many other stuffed animals were tucked in for the night – but no Don.

Then finally she realized that she had tucked Don in under a blanket in a small felt box she has that I assumed was just full of random kid stuff and Don would not be there.

Today’s lesson: She’s sneaky. She didn’t want to go to bed so she created the “I lost Don” scenario so she wouldn’t have to go to bed until found. I have to give her credit. It was an excellent stall tactic.

When she came home from school today she wanted to revisit her Peppa Pig Collection. I had it hidden downstairs but she found it and then she had to play with it because what’s old is new again.

I was in charge of hosting the picnic:

I’m thinking Peppa in the back there has had too much to drink and has to call an uber.

    I think I did a fine job.

  3. A Day of Firsts

    ### First, the bad news:

You would think that our plumbing fiasco would be over because we’re done now. All fixed, right? Nope. The plumbers can’t read and only did half the work because they can’t read a work order apparently.

This would explain why things are still backed up when we use anything that requires water. All is well with the flower of water from the house to the middle of the front yard and then water meets the old plumbing (that should not be there) and big surprise – things are still backing up and I have wet socks once again.

But they should be here tomorrow with the backhoe and by day’s end we should be good to go – literally

    Next, the good news:

The child took home her first library book today:

    who doesn’t like tacos?

She still needs this to be read to her as she can’t read this book by herself yet – but it’s a great book to pick as the first book. That’s my girl! – it’s all about the food here.

We read the book tonight at bedtime and I have to say it’s one strange book![Assets/1cd835e635019e58af8f88fcab2b2e66_MD5.webp]]

This morning we read phonics books and she’s much better with ths

    2500

That’s the number of Uber rides I have given since I started this gig a year ago. I have learned a few things over the year of doing this.

    1. Multiple stops are never worth it. It’s either a drug deal or kids getting picked up from school where parking can be iffy and parents leave stuff in the back to trap you there. Same goes for “packages” – I have learned that these seem to be food delivered from house to house in the hood and I bet buried in the food somewhere are drugs. Nope.
    2. Booked reservations are not worth it either as it tends to be senior homes or even hospitals booking rides for their patients. I’m an uber driver, not an ambulance service.
    3. You have 2 minutes to come out and get into the car. It’s not a surprise that I am at your door. The app updated you multiple times that I am coming. You should be waiting for me – not vice versa.

    The first star!

    that’s my girl!

She has no problems with numbers and can count to 20 at least in both English and Spanish so it’s no surprise that she aced it. I was out uber-ing when she came home with this but she was so proud of her first star from her teacher. Me too.

    A quick scoot before school.

This school thing is working out pretty well for us so far. She makes it to dinnertime and then is so tired she’s pretty much begging for a story and bed and as I write this it’s only about 8-ish and she is out! Kindergarten is rough!

Lastly, here’s today’s artwork we came home with: Today was all about the color yellow

  4. Notifications from the Dishwasher

My Dishwasher just notified me that it was “finished”. I’m not sure how I feel about this. Do I really need to know the exact moment my dishes are clean?

This wasn’t the only notification I received today. I got a few from the NYT about the comings and goings of the election and then as we were at dinner I got another notification from the front door: there was a little person at the door. This little person lives 2 doors down and wanted to play with my little person. I am okay with this.

They have been fast friends since sitting together on their assigned seats on the school bus so I guess over the past 3 days they have become BFF’s. You guys, this is awesome in so many ways. First, she has a friend. We live on the side of the street with the older homes and with the older people – like her parents.

The little ones come with younger parents and live in newer houses so she’s missed out on some neighborhood fun somewhat but as she’s gotten older she’s spread her wings some which is good. The girls eventually came inside and trashed our family room with toys. As I write this she’s in the tent trying to go to sleep and I am writing this interesting tome.

    Speaking of Notifications…

This is where I hit you up for money. Blunt enough?

The software I use to send this email offers an option to ask for a one time donation instead of (or in addition to) a monthly or yearly subscription. So. Because I have no shame:

    Buy me a Coffee

And then there’s the monthly subscription: At this point I really don’t expect anybody to actually pay for this, but hey – it’s worth a shot and just a reminder that it’s there. As it stands, I’m out $11 a month to host it, so it would be great to break even. BW would think I was a hero.:

Subscribe and Get 7 Days Free

Lastly, and this cost you absolutely nothing: Buy Stuff on Amazon

As an example: somebody bought a suitcase the other day and I made about five bucks!

    Enough about Money

    On to fame..

We’re internet famous. All 23 of us.

I was exploring other blogs the other day and lo and behold my blog is one of the popular parenting blogs according to the Ghost Explore website. Maybe parenting isn’t a popular topic because why would they feature this site with a whopping 23 readers? Don’t get me wrong I value each and every one of you, but I also could send you all a Christmas cards, so I am not sure the algorithm is right.

I wrote most of this while getting her to sleep and listening to her tonies play spidey and friends ad nauseum so do me a favor and hit the buy/subscribe/shop buttons above.

    Until Next Time..

  5. I’m Doing it Wrong

Holy. What a Week. This starting school stuff is tiring. I’m ready for a day off!

To end out the week I got another needle in my eye – because that’s always fun. (spoiler alert: my eyesight is getting a little worse)

I can’t believe that it’s she’s only been to school for 3 days this week because OMG it seems much longer! Holy. It has seemed extraordinarily busy this week.

    The Laptop

I went to use my Dell laptop last night only to find that the seams were spreading. This is usually due to a defective and swelling batter y. It was late when I noticed this and so I thought that was the case and in the morning I called Dell only to find that the battery is only warrantied for a year.

They just replaced the battery on this thing on July 17th as the original was toast when I bought it new but apparently the warranty only applies to the battery. Odd, but OK. So, I bought a new battery only to find out later upon closer inspection that the battery is fine. The tech didn’t put the bottom back on properly.

I now have a battery on order I don’t need.

    The Ball Game

As I mentioned yesterday, we played baseball. So tonight we were out in the front yard like were but this time BW as there watching us play. Then asks me “Where did you learn to swing a bat?” Um…probably never. Short Story: I’m doing it wrong – something about having to raise my elbow or something…I dunno. I just ignored her because prior to our unsolicited lesson we were having fun!

Not correct, but fun. (Sorry abut that T-shirt Al)

This reminded me of one of her books we like to read: Watch me throw the ball by Mo Willems.

The child won BTW 3-1. I think it’s my technique.

Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good

    The Tent

She wanted so bad to sleep in the tent. For whatever reason she does not like the actual bed and prefers “beds” on floors more. The rule is that on school nights you’re in the bed but on the weekends – eh, whatever.

She had been looking forward to this all week but now that it wasn’t a school night it was actually doable. One good thing about this higher education thing is that she’s exhausted by 7pm. And if we can catch her before it goes sideways we can get her settled down and actually asleep at a good time.

    Tonight we won:

she’s in there somewhere. fast asleep.

    Sleep Tight,
